The National Hibernian Digest is Now Online

The National Hibernian Digest, the official newspaper of the Ancient Order of Hibernians now has an online edition, which will feature an archive of past issues.

According to editor Keith Carney, the site will also include expanded news and features not appearing in the newspaper.

The site is HibernianDigest.com, which was designed by Nassau County Webmaster and Division 8 Vice President Joe McDonald, who was named Online Editor of the paper.

So please stop by the Digest website and we ask for all divisions to add the link to the Digest site to its respective websites.

Division 8 Makes Donation to Wounded Warriors Project

Wounded Warriors Check Presentation- Division585On October 8, 2009, Division 8 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians presented a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project to assist them in continuing their work of helping men and women returning from active duty in the armed services to re-acclemate themselves to post-military life.  The Wounded Warriors Project is a national organization which provides medical assistance, job training, education and advocacy to members of the armed forces and their families towards the end of their tours of duty.  Division 8 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians has raised supplies and funds though its annual raffle, collections and supply drives organized by Division Member Jack McDougal and manned by the members of Division 8 for the benefit of our service men and women.

During the supply drive,   over 20 boxes of supplies such as socks,

shampoo, soap, candy and other necessities were collected and sent to our armed forces serving our Country. Participating in the presentation, pictured above from left to right, were Stefan Stillwell, Patrick Furlong, Neil Sullivan, Jim McCabe, Jeffery Moore (Division Treasurer), Joe McDonald (Division Vice-President), Robert Panzenbeck, Paul Hastings (Ambassador for the Wounded Warrior Project), John Hanley (DivisionPresident) and Ryan Doherty (Division Financial Secretary).  The Division would like to extend it’s sincere gratitude to the men and women serving our country in the Armed Forces and the Wounded Warriors Project for their efforts in assisting them.  The Division would also like to extend its thanks to Page One for hosting this event.

Trip To the Long Island Ducks

The AOH will be sponsoring a trip to Citibank Park to see the Long Island Ducks on July 25, 2009.

Tickets will be $30 dollars each and includes a pregame picnic barbecue in left field.

Brother Joe McDonald Gets Major Degree

ISLAND PARK, NY – Division 8 would like to congratulate Joe McDonald for receiving his Major Degree on Sunday, April 19th.

“It’s an honor,” said McDonald, who joined the AOH back in 2007 and served as Recording Secretary in 2008. “Going through this process allows me to understand what it is to be a brother in the AOH.”

Over 50 candidates went through the process, at Sacred Heart Parish in Island Park, NY which was attended by brothers from all the divisions in Nassau County.

Division 8 was represented by County President John O’Connell, Division President John Hanley, Immediate Past President and Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2009 Grand Marshal Robert Lynch, Standing Committee Chair Patrick Furlong, and Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2009 Aide to the Grand Marshal Barney Lough.

Here are the pictures of the 2009 Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade, with the Division’s own Robert Lynch as Grand Marshal and Barney Lough as Aide. The parade ran for almost an hour, followed by a division lunch at at Page One in Glen Cove.
