2011 Parade A Grand Success

March 22, 2011 by

The 2011 Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade had beautiful weather as the marchers went down Glen Street. The sidewalks were filled four to five deep in Downtown Glen Cove, cheering on Grand Marshal Andy Stafford and his Aides Jim Burke and Carol McTigue.

“I am so honored this day,” said Stafford. “I couldn’t imagine it any better.”

Three different counties and six different AOH divisions were represented, while the Nassau County Ladies were also out in full force.

After the parade Division 8 sponsored an after party at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall where Mayor Ralph Suozzi presented awards to the Grand Marshal and Aides.

Parade Route

  • The Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade forms behind the Finley Middle School, Forest Avenue.
  • The Parade moves from the designated formation areas around the Finley Middle School and into Forest Avenue south of Dosoris Lane.
  • It then follows Brewster Street  to School Street.
  • From there it moves into Glen Street
  • It then  follows Glen Street to the end of Parade Route at St. Patrick’s Church, which is located at the corner of Glen Street and Pearsall Avenue.

Parade Directions and Parking

Parking For Parade Participants

There is no parking available at the staging grounds. The school parking areas there are used solely for lining up the marching units and inflating the balloons and, thus, are closed to all vehicles.  There are no exceptions. Convenient parking is available at the Glen Cove Parking Garages on Brewster Street, from where a free shuttle bus is available to the staging area.  Participants who wish to park at the end of the parade may follow the parade route and carpool to St. Patrick’s Church parking lot, where parking is available in the areas not reserved for balloon deflation.

For Spectators
There are large multilevel parking garages behind the School Street and Glen Street viewing areas of the parade.  The garages on the north of School Street may be entered from Brewster Street and the garages on the south side can be entered from Glen Street or from Highland Road.  Both parking areas give easy access to the School Street and Glen Street viewing areas.  All parking is free.

Directions from Long Island Expressway:

1. Exit at Exit 39, Glen Cove Road.

2. Take Glen Cove Road North.

3. Glen Cove Road crosses the intersection of Rte 25A (Northern Blvd. – Wheatley Plaza,  Pathmark is on the right) and then the intersection of Glen Head Road (the Brookville Diner is on the right).

4. After passing through the intersection with Glen Head Road, Route 107 merges with Glen Cove Road.  Stay to the left.  You will see St. Hyacinth’s Church on the right.  Stay in the left lane and soon after the church you will come to a fork in the road.  Stay to the left and take the left hand fork, which is a bypass into Glen Cove.

5. Route 107 ends opposite the Glen Cove Fire Department.  Turn right, onto Brewster Street and follow Brewster Street to the corner of Doris Lane and Forest Avenue, where the grounds of the Finley Middle School begin, on the left.

On June 10, 2010, at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, our Division will host a presentation on The History of Irish Music given by none other than our own Robert Lynch.  This is the same presentation that Brother Bob gave at Molloy College a month ago.

It was very well attended and we are fortunate to have this wonderful opportunity. This event will be open to the public and we are going to publicize it locally and regionally.

2010 Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade Goes Off Without a Hitch

Beautiful weather was the name of the game this year at the 2010 Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Warm temperatures made it very easy for the marchers and the spectators as they say AOH Members Tom Lilly and Gerry Herbert lead the celebration as Grand Marshal and Aide, respectively.

Afterwards, Division 8 celebrated at Page One restaurant where Lilly and Herbert received citations from Mayor Ralph Suozzi.

This parade also marks the last one for Chairman Andy Stafford, who will be stepping down from the position after 10 years. Because of that, Stafford also received a citation from the Mayor.

See more photos of the parade at the Nassau County AOH website.

March for Life 2010 is a Success!!

March for LifeThere is something happening to our nation, something good.  And guess who is leading the way to our better tomorrow?  The youth!  The picture below (March for Life 2010 photo’s) captures what the majority of the youth in our nation intuitively understand. That Life, all Life, is precious.  Here are some numbers: Over 100 parishioners took the journey to the March for Life from St. Patrick’s Church.  10 Confirmation candidates, 11 Youth Group members and 8 Family’s.  58 were female, 50 were male. 53 were under 25!  More stat’s, pictures and video on the way, stay tuned.

St. Patrick’s Respect Life Office would like to thank all those who contributed to the cost of the buses. We’d especially like to thank the bus company World Wide Tours, Michael Shub,  and our drivers, Willie and Alvin, for comfortable, clean buses, a smooth charter process and most of all a safe trip.  Bus captains Dave & Marylin Johnson and Rich Lucidi were invaluable and kept the entire group together so well that not one person went missing. That’s not easy when you are in a sea of over 300,000. Yes, 300,000!  You wouldn’t know that from the media coverage, or lack thereof, but the counting has been done. More on this later in the week.
